A major river called the Rio Grande flows right by the city. This river acts as the border between Mexico and the United States. El Paso, Texas, sits just to the north of Juárez. Together, these cities form a huge area called El Paso–Juárez. This is the second largest border area between the two countries.

Four international bridges connect the two sides of the border. These bridges allow millions of people to cross every year.

The history of this place goes back a long time. In 1659, a man named García de San Francisco founded it. Back then, it was called "El Paso del Norte."

Today, Juárez is a very busy center for industry. There are more than 300 assembly plants in the area.
