The rocks are made of limestone and dolomite. These stones are very old. They started to form 90 million years ago.

How did the rocks get these shapes? It was a slow set of steps. Long ago, there was a flat plateau of limestone. Then, rain fell on the stone. The water wore down the limestone. Some parts of the rock were dolomite. Dolomite is a type of stone that is harder to wear away. The dolomite did not sit in even spots. This left behind many odd shapes. The Júcar river also helped shape the land.
