He is most famous for his dominance in Grand Tours. A Grand Tour is a massive multi-stage bicycle race lasting several weeks. Froome has won seven Grand Tour titles throughout his career. His ability to win these grueling races makes him one of the greatest riders of his era.

To win a Grand Tour, a cyclist must master several different disciplines. Froome is known as a specialist climber. This means he performs exceptionally well on steep mountain ascents.

He also excels in the individual time trial. A time trial is a race where riders compete against the clock rather than each other. This skill helped him win two Olympic bronze medals in 2012 and 2016.

In 2008, he moved to Italy and began riding under a British license. This change was necessary because Kenya did not qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. By 2010, he joined the British team, Team Sky. He became a key rider for the team almost immediately. His breakthrough came during the 2011 Vuelta a España. Though he initially finished second, he was later promoted to first place.

His performance in the Tour de France was particularly historic. He won the race in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2016, he became the first man since Miguel Induráin in 1995 to defend his title. He also achieved a rare Grand Tour double. By winning the 2017 Vuelta and the 2018 Giro d'Italia, he became the first rider to win the Tour-Vuelta double since the Vuelta moved to September.

He was also the first rider since 1983 to hold all three Grand Tour winners' jerseys at once.

Despite his triumphs, Froome has faced significant physical and professional challenges. In 2019, he suffered a devastating training crash before the Critérium du Dauphiné.

The accident resulted in broken bones in his pelvis, femur, and four ribs. He underwent surgery to recover and returned to the peloton in 2020. However, he struggled to regain his peak form after the accident. His performance levels were often compared to Joseba Beloki, who also struggled after a major crash. One notable moment of strength was his third-place finish on the Alpe d'Huez stage in 2022.

His parents were of British origin and maintained British customs at home. As a child in Kenya, he sold avocados and old bicycle parts. His interest in racing began at age 13 when he won a charity race. During his youth, he also moved to South Africa for his education. He attended St. Andrew's School and St John's College. While in South Africa, he served as his school's cycling captain. These diverse environments helped shape his determination.

His career also includes complex regulatory and team history. Throughout his time in the sport, Froome faced allegations regarding anti-doping regulations. In 2023, his former coach was banned for violating rules and tampering with investigations. Additionally, his early career involved a bold move to gain experience. He once used an email account to enter the 2006 World Championships to boost his racing CV. He eventually moved to Monaco in 2011, where he has resided since. His journey from selling bike parts in Kenya to winning the Tour de France is a remarkable story of professional cycling.
