Scientists found the crater by studying the land. They used tools to measure gravity and magnets. They also found special glass beads called tektites. These beads form from extreme heat. Scientists also found iridium in rocks. Iridium is a metal that is rare on Earth. It is common in asteroids. The impact caused a mass extinction. This means many plants and animals died out. It included all the non-avian dinosaurs. The hit threw sulfur into the air. This made the world dark and cold for many years.
