Charley Patton was a famous blues musician. Many people call him the "Father of the Delta Blues." This is because he helped start a new style of music. He lived in the Mississippi Delta. He played many kinds of songs. He played deep blues and old country dance music.

Charley was a great showman. He did not just sit and play. He would play his guitar on his knees. He even played it behind his back! He had a very loud, gravelly voice. His voice was strong enough to carry 500 yards. This style helped many other singers later on.

Charley was a teacher to other musicians. He taught many young players in his area. His music is still very important today. One of his songs, "Pony Blues," is in a special library. This library is called the Library of Congress. He was also put into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. People still study his life and his great songs.
