Charles Revson was a famous American businessman. He changed the world of beauty products forever. He is best known for starting the Revlon company. Before him, nail polish was not very colorful. Revson created the first nail polish made with pigments. Pigments are tiny bits of color that make things bright. This new invention helped him build a huge business. He managed Revlon for fifty years.

Revson's journey began with a big decision. He worked for a cosmetics company called Elka. He wanted to be a national distributor for them. The company did not give him that job. Instead of giving up, he started his own business. He used his ideas to create something new. This led to the birth of Revlon. He turned a small idea into a global giant.

His family history shaped the man he became. He was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, in 1906. His family moved from Canada to the United States. His father, Samuel, was born in Lithuania. His mother, Jeanette, was born in Austria-Hungary. His parents moved to Boston in the late 1800s. They had eight other children in their family. Revson grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire.

In the 1950s, Revson became part of a TV scandal. Revlon paid for a popular quiz show. The show was called The $64,000 Question. It was a huge hit on television. Some people said the show was rigged. This means the winners were chosen to keep ratings high. A producer named Steve Carlin testified about this in Congress. Even with this trouble, Revlon grew into a massive company.

Revson also spent much of his life helping others. He was a philanthropist, which means he gave money to help people. He started the Charles H. Revson Foundation in 1956. He gave over $10 million to it during his life. The foundation helps schools and hospitals in New York. When he died in 1975, he left $68 million more. Today, the foundation has grown to $141 million.
