She loved the sport and changed it forever. She first became interested in skating after watching the 1928 World Championships. At that event, she saw stars like Sonja Henie and Maribel Vinson. Their amazing performances inspired her to try skating herself. She grew up in a family with a surgeon father and a mother named Margaret. Her brother, Maule, served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. Cecilia became a leader in her sport through hard work and skill.

Skating required many different types of training for Cecilia. She worked with coaches named Eva Keats and Jacques Gerschwiler. Gerschwiler was a former gymnastics teacher with very new ideas. He wanted her to be a complete athlete. Because of this, Cecilia took ballet lessons to help her movement. She also worked with an acrobatics instructor named Miss Lee. Miss Lee was a former circus performer who taught her how to stretch. These lessons helped Cecilia create new moves on the ice.

Cecilia was a very young competitor. She went to the 1932 Winter Olympics when she was only eleven years old. At that time, she was the youngest Olympic figure skater. She later won a silver medal at the 1936 Winter Olympics. This was a very close race against Sonja Henie. In 1936, Cecilia also became the first woman to land a double salchow jump. This was the first time a woman did a double jump in a competition. She also won many other big prizes during her career.

Her list of wins is very long and impressive.

She was the World Champion in 1937. She also won the European Championship title three times between 1937 and 1939. Cecilia won the British national title six times in total. She won her first national title in 1935 and her last one in 1946. Even after a break during the war, she returned to win again. She was a true champion for many years.

Cecilia changed the way people think about skating moves. She and her coach invented the camel spin in 1937. They also created the layback spin together. She even invented a one-foot Axel jump called the "Colledge." After she stopped competing, she moved to the United States in 1951. She became a coach at the Skating Club of Boston. She taught many skaters from 1952 until 1977. In 1980, she was put into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
