It comes from special goats like the pashmina goat.

These goats grow a thick coat in winter. This coat keeps them warm in the cold. The coat has two parts. The first part is a soft undercoat. People use this fine hair for soft clothes. The second part is coarse guard hair. This hair is used for making brushes.

To get the soft wool, people must de-hair it. This means they separate the fine hair from the coarse hair. Some people comb the wool by hand. This takes a long time. However, it makes the wool very high quality. This soft wool can be dyed many colors. It can be made into hats, socks, and warm blankets. It can even be woven into fine coats.

Cashmere is special because it helps your body. It can absorb water from the air. This helps you stay warm or cool. China and Mongolia are top producers of this wool.
