This tree can grow very tall. It has leaves that turn golden yellow in the fall.

This tree makes pear-shaped nuts. The nuts have a thick shell. They are wrapped in a green husk. The husk turns brown as the nut ripens. In the fall, the husk splits into four parts. These parts often stay stuck to the nut. The nuts smell sweet, like maple syrup. Many wild animals eat them. Squirrels and chipmunks help spread the seeds to new places.
