Aristegui's professional journey began in television. She started her career at Channel 13 and Imevisión. At Imevisión, she served as an assistant on the financial program "Monitor Financiero." Her communication skills and tenacity helped her rise through the ranks. She eventually became a cornerstone of the 7 AM news broadcast on Channel 13. For many years, she worked alongside journalist Javier Solórzano. They appeared together on programs like "En Blanco y Negro" and "Noticias Canal 52: Aristegui-Solórzano." In 2005, they ended their professional partnership due to conflicting schedules.

Her career has also included significant work in radio and digital media. She has worked for stations such as Radio Educación, FM Globo, and Stereorey. In 2009, she began a daily show on Noticias MVS. This program allowed her to cover issues with much greater depth. She also hosts an online morning newscast. This digital broadcast is distributed through an alliance with Grupo Radio Centro on XERC-FM. This variety of platforms ensures her reporting reaches a wide audience. She manages her own news website to maintain her journalistic independence.

Aristegui's personal history influenced her dedication to journalism. She was born on January 18, 1964, in Mexico City. She was the fifth of seven children in her family. Her father was a Basque Spaniard who arrived in Mexico as a refugee. This occurred following the Spanish Civil War. Her mother had Spanish and French heritage. Aristegui grew up in the Colonia Álamos neighborhood. She attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). There, she initially studied sociology before switching to communication sciences.

Her career has faced significant challenges regarding editorial freedom. In 2008, she left W Radio after tensions with her employers. The network wanted to change its editorial direction. This split happened around the time Daniel Moreno became director. In 2011, MVS Radio terminated her contract. This followed her comments regarding a rumor about President Calderón. A CNN report revealed that the government pressured the station to demand an apology. After intense public outcry, Aristegui was reinstated on February 21, 2011.

A second, major conflict occurred in March 2015. Two MVS journalists, Daniel Lizárraga and Irving Huerta, were fired. They had used the MVS brand to create "MexicoLeaks," a site for government corruption reports. Aristegui issued an ultimatum to MVS management. She threatened to quit if her colleagues were not reinstated. MVS responded by firing Aristegui four days later. This event involved the "white house scandal." This scandal concerned a government contractor and the First Lady. On June 21, 2018, a federal court ruled her 2015 dismissal was illegal and improper.

Aristegui's work extends into literature and political analysis. In 2006, she published the book "Uno De Dos 2006: Mexico en la Encrucijada." This book profiled presidential candidates Felipe Calderón Hinojosa and Andrés Manuel López Obrador. She intended the book to provide an "x-ray" of the country. It offered insights into how candidates might behave in office. Her career demonstrates the complex relationship between the media and political power. She remains a central figure in the discussion of freedom of expression in Mexico.
