Carl David Anderson was a famous American physicist. He studied the tiny parts of our world. He spent his whole career at Caltech. This is a school in California.

In 1932, Anderson found something new. He was looking at cosmic rays. These are rays that come from space. He used a cloud chamber to see them. A cloud chamber lets him see tracks from tiny particles. He saw tracks that were very strange. These tracks showed a positron. A positron is a tiny part of matter. It has the same mass as an electron. But it has an opposite charge. This discovery proved that antimatter exists. For this work, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1936.

Later, Anderson found another tiny part. He and a student found the muon. A muon is a particle much heavier than an electron. It also has a negative charge. These new finds surprised many scientists. They did not know where these parts fit in the world.
