It helps many people travel quickly through the city of Caracas. The system is run by a company called Compañía Anónima Metro de Caracas. This company is owned by the government. The metro works to help people move around the city and nearby areas. It uses a plan to connect different parts of the city together. The motto for the metro is "We are part of your life."

There are several different lines that the trains follow.

Line 1 is the longest line at 20.4 kilometers. It runs between Propatria and Palo Verde and has 22 stations. Line 2 runs from El Silencio to Zoológico and is 17.8 kilometers long. Line 3 goes from Plaza Venezuela to La Rinconada and covers 10.4 kilometers. There is also Line 4, which is 5.5 kilometers long. Line 4 was later renamed Line 2 by the metro system. These lines work together to move many passengers every day.

Building this big system took a long time.

A man named José González-Lander started the planning in the 1960s. He led the project for more than thirty years. The company was officially founded in 1977. The first part of the metro opened on January 2, 1983. President Luis Herrera Campins was there for the opening. In 1978, a sample train was even shipped from a plant in New York City. This was a special train used to help build the new system.

Today, the metro faces some very hard jobs.

Many trains have stopped working because they need more maintenance. In 2022, only 23 out of 169 trains were working well. This makes it hard for people to ride the trains on time. Electrical failures also cause many delays for the users. The system also uses a bus network called the Metrobus. These buses cover 20 urban routes to help people reach more places. Some people can even buy tickets at small shops using a special sign.

Learning about the metro is like learning about how a city breathes. Just like a person uses paths to move, a city uses trains and buses. The metro connects different neighborhoods so people can go to work or school. It links to other ways of traveling, like the Los Teques Metro. It even connects to the Caracas train station at La Rinconada. Even when things are difficult, these paths stay important for the people living there. The system helps keep the large city moving forward.
