The Hyderabad Metro is a rapid transit system in Telangana, India.

It helps many people travel quickly through the city. The system uses three main lines called the Red, Blue, and Green lines. These lines follow a secant model to cover the city. There are 57 stations in total across the whole network. This system is very important for moving large groups of people. It helps reduce the amount of traffic on the roads.

The metro works by running trains on elevated tracks. These tracks sit on top of 2,599 pillars built above the ground. The builders chose to go above ground instead of underground. They did this because the soil in Hyderabad has hard rocks and boulders. The lines connect different parts of the city together. For example, the Red Line runs from Miyapur to LB Nagar. The Blue Line goes from Nagole to Raidurg. The Green Line connects JBS to MGBS.

Building the metro took many years of planning and work. The project began in 2003 under the NDA government. At first, the city used a system called the MMTS. However, the MMTS did not have enough space for everyone. In 2007, N. V. S. Reddy became the managing director. The company Larsen & Toubro eventually won the job to build it. They were the lowest bidder during a re-bidding process in 2010. Groundbreaking for the actual construction happened on 26 April 2012.

Many important dates and numbers tell the story of the metro. On 28 November 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the first stretch. This stretch went from Miyapur to Nagole and had 24 stations. It was the longest metro line ever opened at once in India.

By July 2023, the metro reached 0.51 million riders in one day. In February 2020, about 490,000 people used it every day. A special coach for women was added to all trains on 7 May 2018.

You can think of the metro as a giant moving path for the city. It connects to other ways people travel, like the MMTS trains. The government and a private company work together to run it. This is called a public-private partnership. This way, the state government holds a small part of the ownership. The metro helps people get to work or school without using cars. It makes the big city of Hyderabad feel much more connected.
