geography Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Cappadocia is a famous region in central Turkey. It sits in a part of the land called Anatolia.

The land is a high plateau. It has many big volcanoes. One peak is Mount Erciyes. It is very tall. Long ago, these volcanoes erupted. They left behind thick layers of ash. Over millions of years, wind and water changed the soft rock. This made strange shapes called fairy chimneys.
