A bulletin board is a place to post messages.

People use them to show events or sell things. Many boards use cork. Cork is a soft material. It lets you stick pins into it. This makes it easy to add or remove notes. Some boards use magnets instead. Magnets do not wear out like cork does.

Some boards are also for writing. They might have a blackboard or a whiteboard.

Bulletin boards are very old. In Ancient Athens, people used white boards for news. In the Middle Ages, people used church doors. In 1925, George Brooks got a patent for corkboards. This helped them become common in homes. Later, new kinds were made. Some used foam rubber. Other boards combined a chalkboard with a pinboard.

Today, we have digital boards too. These live on computer networks. People call them message boards. They can also be internet forums. These are places to talk online. They work even if you are far away. Some new screens show digital signs. These help keep areas neat.
