Bugs Moran was a leader of a gang in Chicago. He was born in Minnesota. He left school when he was 18. He spent much of his youth in jail. He moved to Chicago and took a new name. People called him "Bugs" because they thought he was wild.

In 1920, a new law began. It banned the sale of alcohol. This led to bootlegging, which is selling alcohol in secret. Moran led the North Side Gang. He fought a rival named Al Capone. This was a war over territory.

On February 14, 1929, a sad event happened. It is called the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre. Seven of Moran's men were killed in a warehouse. Men dressed as police officers carried out the attack. Moran was not there because he was late. He went to a cafe instead.

After this, Moran lost much of his power. He spent many years in and out of prison. He was once a very rich man. Later, he had almost no money. He died in a prison in Kansas in 1957.
