Sam Giancana was a famous crime boss in Chicago. He was born in 1908 to parents from Italy. As a young man, he joined a group called the 42 Gang. He was a very skilled driver. Later, he joined the Chicago Outfit. This was a large group of organized criminals. In 1957, he became their top leader.

Sam was involved in many illegal activities. He controlled gambling and liquor sales in Louisiana. Some people say he helped John F. Kennedy win the presidency in 1960. He also worked with the CIA. This was a secret government group. They wanted him to help remove the leader of Cuba, Fidel Castro. Sam even suggested using poison pills for this plan.

His life changed when he faced the law. In 1965, he went to prison for a year. After he was free, he moved to Mexico. He lived there to stay away from legal trouble. In 1974, he was sent back to the United States. He returned to Chicago. Sam was killed in 1975 at his home in Illinois.
