They lived in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. The family included a father named Patrick and a mother named Maria. They had six children in total. Sadly, two of the older daughters, Maria and Elizabeth, died at a young age.

The surviving children were very close to one another. This closeness helped them create amazing stories that people still read today.

As children, the siblings used their imaginations to build a world. They started with oral storytelling and play. They eventually moved to writing complex stories together in a fictional world.

The three sisters—Charlotte, Emily, and Anne—became poets and novelists. They wanted people to focus on their writing rather than their gender. Because of this, they published their work using male names. Charlotte used the name Currer Bell. Emily used Ellis Bell. Anne used Acton Bell.

Their family history began with their father, Patrick Brontë. He was born in County Down, Ireland. His original family name was likely Prunty or Brunty. He studied at St John's College, Cambridge, where he learned about history and divinity.

After studying, he was ordained as a minister in 1806. He married Maria Branwell in 1812. Patrick later changed the spelling of his name to Brontë. Some believe he did this to sound more classical or to honor Admiral Horatio Nelson.

Life in the Brontë home was filled with books and learning. Patrick was a dedicated father who bought many books and toys.

After Maria died in 1821, Aunt Elizabeth Branwell came to help. She taught the children how to sew, embroider, and do math. She also gave them books to discuss. The family lived in a parsonage in Haworth. This building is now a famous museum. Hundreds of thousands of people visit it every year.

Many of the Brontë books are now considered masterpieces. Charlotte wrote the famous novel *Jane Eyre*. Emily wrote *Wuthering Heights*. Anne wrote *Agnes Grey* and the ambitious *The Tenant of Wildfell Hall*.

Even though the siblings died young, their work lived on. Their lives were marked by the loss of their mother and sisters. These experiences deeply influenced the passion in their writing. Today, we remember them as some of the greatest writers in history.
