Sir Bradley Wiggins was a famous professional cyclist from Great Britain.

He was a master of many different types of racing. He competed on smooth indoor tracks and on long, winding roads. Wiggins was known for his incredible skill and strength. He made history by becoming the first British winner of the Tour de France in 2012.

He is also the only rider to win both the Tour de France and Olympic gold in the same year. This happened in 2012 when he won both prizes only one week apart. He was a very special athlete who could win on both the track and the road.

Cycling requires many different skills depending on the race. In track cycling, riders often race in the individual pursuit or the team pursuit. These races are about speed and working together in a tight group. Wiggins also won world titles in the Madison, which is a race where partners switch off. On the road, he was a specialist in the time trial. This is a race where a rider goes as fast as possible against the clock.

He even set a world hour record in 2015. During that hour, he rode a distance of 54.526 kilometres. This showed just how much power he could maintain for a long time.

His journey into cycling started when he was just twelve years old.

He began training at the Herne Hill Velodrome in London. Interestingly, he used money from a road accident to buy his first racing bicycle. He joined the Archer Road Club to practice his skills. Wiggins grew up in London after moving there from Belgium as a young child. His father, Gary Wiggins, was also a professional cyclist. This family connection helped him fall in love with the sport. He worked very hard to move from local races to the world stage.

Throughout his career, Wiggins won many important awards and medals.

For his great services to cycling, he was given a knighthood in 2013. This means he is officially known as Sir Bradley Wiggins. He retired from all professional cycling on 28 December 2016.

Many people recognize his achievements through the famous jerseys he wore.

In the Tour de France, the leader wears the bright yellow jersey. Wiggins also wore the rainbow jersey, which shows a rider is a world champion. He was a very successful member of Team Sky during his road racing years. Later in his career, there were questions about how his team used certain medicines. A report in 2018 said they used a medicine called triamcinolone to help him perform better. However, Wiggins did not receive any bans or suspensions during his racing career. He remains one of the most decorated Olympians in British history.
