He was born in 1967 in the German town of Leimen. His father, Karl-Heinz, was an architect who started a tennis center there. This is where young Boris learned his skills on the court. He was raised in a Catholic home by his parents, Elvira and Karl-Heinz. Even though he became a star, his parents wanted him to finish school first. They hoped he would earn a degree and have a respectful job.

Becker changed how people played tennis by using incredible power.

He was a pioneer of what people call "power tennis." This style used a very fast serve to win points quickly. He also had an "all-court game," which means he was good at playing from many different spots. He was very successful on fast surfaces like grass or indoor carpet. He won 26 titles on indoor carpet alone. His powerful serves and strong groundstrokes made him a huge threat to other players.

His rise to fame happened when he was just a teenager. In 1985, he won the Wimbledon singles title at only 17 years old.

This made him the youngest man to ever win that famous trophy. He was also the first German player to win it. In 1989, he was named Player of the Year by both the ATP and the ITF. That same year, he won two Grand Slam singles titles. He beat players like Ivan Lendl and Stefan Edberg in big matches. These victories helped him reach the world number one ranking in 1991.

Throughout his long career, Becker won many important trophies.
