Many countries have these laws. About 26% of the world's lands have them. Some laws protect the main religion in a land. Other laws protect small groups of believers.

Laws can change as people think about them. In Canada, people asked to end an old law. This law punished people for writing mean things about religion. The law was removed in 2018.

In Denmark, the laws have changed too. A law was removed in 2017. Then, a new rule was made in 2023. This new rule stops people from mistreating holy books in public.
