T'Challa uses many different skills to be a hero. He drinks a heart-shaped herb to gain enhanced abilities. This is a special Wakandan ritual. He is also a very smart scientist. He uses advanced technology from his home to fight enemies. T'Challa is also a master of hand-to-hand combat. He relies on his physical training to stay strong. He also uses his knowledge of traditions to lead his people.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the character. He first appeared in Fantastic Four #52 in July 1966.

The creators had different ideas about how he started. Lee wanted to include more African characters in Marvel. Kirby said he wanted to include more Black readers. Both men wanted to be more inclusive in their work. The name was inspired by a hero with a black panther helper. Kirby's first idea for the name was actually Coal Tiger.

Many writers have shaped T'Challa's long history. In 1968, he joined the famous team called the Avengers. Writer Don McGregor wrote famous stories in the 1970s. He introduced the rival Erik Killmonger to the comics. Later, Christopher Priest showed Wakanda as a very independent nation. He also introduced the Dora Milaje, who are female bodyguards. Reginald Hudlin wrote stories where T'Challa married the X-Men hero Storm. In 2016, Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote a very successful series.

Today, many people know Black Panther from movies and games.
