It is the national language of Vanuatu. This country has many different islands. Each island has its own local language. Vanuatu has 113 different languages!

Because there are so many languages, Bislama helps people talk to each other. It is a bridge for communication.

Most Bislama words come from English. Over 95% of the words are English. It also uses some French words. The grammar is different, though. It uses grammar from the islands. For example, the word "ol" means "all." You put it before a word to show there is more than one. If you say "bia," it means one beer. If you say "ol bia," it means beers.

Bislama has a long history. It started on plantations in the 1870s. People from different places had to work together. They made this new way to speak. Today, Bislama is used in the national anthem.

It is a proud part of life in Vanuatu.
