Players try to match numbers on their cards. A leader, called a caller, picks numbers at random. You might see them use a cage with wooden balls. Some use air to blow ping pong balls around. Others use computers to pick the numbers.

Most cards have 25 squares in a grid. The middle square is a "free space." This means it is already filled for you. The columns are labeled with the letters B, I, N, G, and O. To win, you must make a line. You can make a line side-to-side, up and down, or from corner to corner.

When you win, you shout "Bingo!"

People play bingo for many reasons. Many play to win a prize or a jackpot. Some play to help churches or charities raise money. In schools, teachers use it to help kids learn. They might use words or math instead of numbers.
