Making a movie involves many careful steps. Wilder often started by writing the screenplay, which is the written script for a film. He sometimes worked with a partner to come up with ideas. They would suggest an idea and then change it many times. After the story was ready, he would direct the actors. Directing means telling the performers how to move and speak. He also helped produce the films to make sure they were finished correctly.
