Two countries were at war. Russia and Japan fought for control of the area.

The Russian fleet had to sail a very long way. They came from the Baltic Sea. The trip took seven months. The sailors were very tired. Many got sick during the long voyage.

Their ships were also old and slow.

The Japanese fleet was different. They were led by Admiral Tōgō Heihachirō.

His ships were newer and faster. The Japanese also used radio to talk between ships. This helped them win.

The battle was very hard for the Russians. They lost almost all their big ships. Many Russian sailors died or were captured. Because of this loss, Russia agreed to peace. This was a huge win for Japan. Admiral Tōgō became a hero in his country.
