In 1805, a big sea battle happened near Spain. It was called the Battle of Trafalgar.

Napoleon, the leader of France, wanted to invade Britain. To do this, he needed his ships to control the sea. The French and Spanish fleets joined together to help him. They had 33 ships of the line.

A British leader named Lord Nelson led the Royal Navy. He had only 27 ships. Nelson knew he had fewer ships. He made a bold plan to win. He sailed his ships in two columns. He aimed to break the enemy line into pieces. This plan worked very well. It split the French and Spanish fleet apart.

The battle was very fierce. The British lost no ships. But 18 ships from the other side were lost or taken. During the fight, Nelson was shot. He died shortly after. Even with his death, the British won the battle. This victory helped keep Britain safe from invasion. Nelson became a great hero in Britain.
