society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

To work as a lawyer, people must pass a big test. This test is called a bar exam. It proves they know how to follow the law. The rules for these tests change depending on where you live.

In Australia, people must first finish law school. This can take up to eight years. After school, they do practical training. They learn how to work in a court. They also work under a senior lawyer. Then, they join a formal ceremony. They take an oath to follow the law.

In Brazil, the test has two parts. First, people answer eighty multiple choice questions. They must get at least forty right. Then, they must write essays. This test lets them work in any court in the country.

In Germany, students study law for five years. They must pass a first exam. After that, they do two years of training. This includes working at a court or a law firm. Finally, they take a second exam. Once they pass, they are fully qualified lawyers.
