People often play it in big casinos. In the past, people played it at home. The game has many old roots. It may have come from China, Japan, or Korea. It became very popular in Europe. One fast version is called Chemin de Fer. This name means "railway" in French. It was named after the fast trains of that time.

In the game, two hands compete. One is the "player" and one is the "banker." You can also bet on a tie. Each card has a point value. Aces are worth one point. The numbers 2 through 9 are worth their own value. Tens and face cards are worth zero. The best score is nine. You find the total by looking at the last digit. For example, a 6 and a 7 make thirteen. The score for that hand is three. Most people play a version called Punto Banco. In this version, the rules decide which cards to draw. It is a game of pure chance.
