The map shows where it sits. It is in the Seto Inland Sea. It sits between two larger lands. These are Honshu and Shikoku. Awaji is the largest island in that sea.

You can cross to the island by bridge. The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge joins it to Kobe. It is the second longest bridge of its kind in the world. This bridge helps people travel across the land.

Some parts of the island are very special. There are spinning whirlpools in the Naruto Strait. You can also see old puppet shows. These shows use puppets to tell stories. People have done this for over 500 years.

A long time ago, a big earthquake hit the island. This shake came from the Nojima Fault. The fault is a crack in the ground. Now, a museum shows how the fault moved. It shows how the ground cuts through roads and hedges. You can also find pretty clay pots made on the island. Some buildings were even made by a famous architect named Tadao Ando.
