It sits between three large islands: Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. This sea acts like a path. It connects the Pacific Ocean to the Sea of Japan.

The area has a mild climate. This means the temperature stays steady all year. It also does not get much rain.

There are almost 3,000 islands in the sea.

The largest island is called Awaji-shima. Many of the smaller islands have no people living on them. Over 500 kinds of sea life live in the water. You might see a finless porpoise or a great white shark. In the past, whales used to come here to eat or have babies.

Long ago, ships were the main way to travel. Today, big bridges connect the islands. The Great Seto Bridge helps cars and trains move between Honshu and Shikoku. The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is also very large.

These bridges help people travel much faster than before.
