Aspleniaceae is a family of ferns. People often call them spleenworts. These plants live all over the world. They grow in many places. Some grow in the ground. Some grow on rocks. Other types are epiphytes. This means they grow on other plants.

Most of these ferns have a special part. They have sori, which are long lines on the leaf. These sori usually sit on one side of a vein. A thin flap called an indusium covers the edge.

These ferns grow from rhizomes. A rhizome is a stem that grows along or up from the ground. Some rhizomes have scales. One kind of fern is called Asplenium nidus. Its rhizomes form a shape like a basket. This basket catches bits of dirt to help it grow.
