Arthur Danto was a famous thinker. He studied art and ideas. He was a professor at Columbia University. He also wrote for a magazine called The Nation. Danto wanted to know what makes something art. He came up with a new idea. He called it the "artworld." This idea says that art depends on context. This means art depends on the world around it. Schools and museums help decide what is art. He also said art must have meaning. It must show a thought or a feeling. Danto thought the history of art had changed. He said we live in a new era. In this era, there are no strict rules for art. Anything can be art if it has meaning. Danto wrote many books about these big questions. He won many awards for his writing. He was born in Michigan in 1924. He lived a very long and busy life. He died in New York in 2013. His work still helps us think about art today.
