The Aq Qoyunlu were a group of people known as the White Sheep. Their name likely came from the white sheep on their flags.

A man named Qara Yuluk Uthman Beg started their group. They lived in the Diyarbakir region. These people moved their animals to find grass. They were part of the Oghuz tribes.

One great leader was named Uzun Hasan. He ruled from 1452 to 1478. He won many battles to grow his land. His empire reached parts of Iran and Iraq. He even ruled near the Persian Gulf.

The group used a special seal called a tamga. They put this seal on coins and flags. It was the symbol of the Bayandur tribe.

After Uzun Hasan died, the group faced hard times. There were many fights for power. This caused a civil war. A new group called the Safavids began to rise. In 1501, the Safavids won a big battle. This ended the rule of the White Sheep.
