The Seljuk Empire was a large land ruled by Turkic people.

It began in 1037. Two brothers named Tughril and Chaghri were the first leaders. They led their people from near the Aral Sea. They moved into lands like Khorasan and Iran. The Seljuks used Persian ways to run their empire.

The empire grew very big. It reached from Anatolia in the west to the Hindu Kush in the east. In 1071, they won a major battle at Manzikert. This helped them take control of much of Anatolia. Under a leader named Malik Shah I, the empire reached a golden age.

During this time, they also made many beautiful art pieces.

Things began to change later. A big loss at the Battle of Qatwan in 1141 weakened them. Other groups soon took over their lands. The last part of their rule ended in 1308.
