His most famous work is a poem called the Argonautica. This poem tells the story of Jason. It follows his quest for the Golden Fleece. His poem is different from older stories. It is shorter than the poems of Homer. The hero, Jason, feels more like a real person. The poem also talks a lot about local customs. It even teaches about geography, or the study of the earth.

Apollonius was also a great scholar. He studied the works of Homer. He wrote about how cities began. Some people thought he had a fight with another poet named Callimachus. Other stories say they were close friends. We do not know the full truth. Many things about his life are still a mystery. Even his home in Rhodes is not certain. We only know him through his great writing.
