He grew up in a wealthy and noble family. As a young man, he studied at a cathedral school and later at an abbey. He eventually decided to leave his original group to join the Franciscans. He chose this new path because he liked their simple way of living. He even took the name Anthony to honor a small chapel he loved.

Anthony's life was full of travel and unexpected events.

He tried to travel to Morocco to follow his calling. However, he became very ill and had to sail back toward Portugal. His ship was blown off course and landed in Sicily instead. From there, he traveled through Italy and eventually settled in places like Forlì and Padua. These travels helped him meet many different people and share his message.

He became a very famous teacher and speaker.

People called him a "jewel case of the Bible" because of how well he explained it. Even the founder of his order, Francis of Assisi, trusted him to teach others.

He was buried in a small church, but a huge basilica was built for him in Padua later. Many people believe he can help find lost items. This idea comes from a story where a stolen book was returned after he prayed. His influence even reached the Americas. The city of San Antonio in Texas was named after him by Spanish missionaries.
