Annie Fratellini was a talented artist who lived a life of laughter. She was a clown, a singer, and a film actress. Annie belonged to a famous circus family. This family had been performing for four generations. Her family was the Fratellini Family, which was a famous group of clowns. They were of Italian descent but were well known in France.

Annie brought joy to many people through her many different skills.

Annie learned how to perform by watching her parents. Her father, Victor Fratellini, was an acrobat and a clown. Her mother, Suzanne, was the daughter of a circus director. Annie made her first appearance in the circus ring at age 13. She worked at the famous Cirque Medrano in Paris. Later, she became a singer and a musician. She even appeared in films like *La Métamorphose des cloportes* in 1965.

She used her talents to share stories with the world.

Annie's family history is very long and impressive. Her grandfather was Paul Fratellini. He was part of a legendary trio of brothers. This group was very famous in Paris and Europe. Her mother's father ran the Cirque de Paris. That large circus building was on Avenue de la Motte-Picquet. It was active from 1906 until 1930.

This family history gave Annie a strong start in the arts.

Annie worked closely with a man named Pierre Étaix. He was a filmmaker and a comedian. Together, they became a classic European clown duo. Pierre played one type of clown in their act. Annie played the Auguste, which is a funny clown character. They toured with the French Cirque Pinder. In 1975, they opened the École Nationale du Cirque.

This was one of the first professional circus schools in Europe.

Annie helped build a lasting home for circus artists. She and Pierre also created the Nouveau Cirque de Paris. This was a small and special traveling circus. Even after she and Pierre divorced in 1987, Annie kept working. She ran the school and the circus with her daughter, Valérie. The school is now called the Académie Fratellini.

It is now one of the two major circus schools in France. Annie died from cancer on 1 July 1997. She is buried in the Cimetière de Montmartre in Paris near her family.
