Many people call her the very first diva in the history of opera. A diva is a star who is highly respected for her skill. She was famous not just for her singing, but for her acting too. Her voice was very wide and strong. It could reach from a middle C all the way to a high B-flat. This allowed her to sing many different kinds of music. She was one of the highest-paid singers of her time. People truly loved watching her perform on stage.

Renzi was a master of using her whole body to tell a story. A writer named Strozzi described how she moved to show emotion. She could use her face and her hands to act out feelings. She might raise her voice high or make it very low. She could go from being very angry to being calm in a moment. Sometimes she would speak very fast, and other times she would speak slowly. She could laugh or cry to make the audience feel what the character felt. Her acting was so lifelike that it seemed she was not just memorizing lines. Instead, it seemed like her words were born right then and there.

Her career began in Rome and took her to many great places.

She made her first big debut in 1640 at the Palazzo Pallavicini-Rospigliosi. She played a character named Lucinda in an opera called Il favorito del principe. In 1641, she went to Venice for a huge debut. She played the main role in an opera called La finta pazza. This performance helped open a new theatre called the Teatro Novissimo. Many of her roles were created specifically to show off her special talents. Composers wrote music that used many different styles to match her skills.

Renzi performed in many famous cities and for very important people. In 1643, she sang at the Teatro Santi Giovanni e Paolo. She also sang in the famous opera L'incoronazione di Poppea. By 1644, a collection of writings called Le glorie della signora Anna Renzi was made to celebrate her. She traveled to Florence in 1650 and to Genoa in 1653. She even performed in Innsbruck for the Archduke Ferdinand Charles. In 1655, she sang in an opera called L'Argia to celebrate a queen. This performance was very successful and pleased Queen Christina of Sweden.

Many of the roles Renzi played involved clever tricks or disguises.

In one opera, a princess disguises herself as a charming young man. In others, a queen might pretend to be a simple shepherdess. Some of her characters used "feigned madness," which means they pretended to be crazy. Other characters used "feigned piety" to pretend they were very holy. These roles often jumped between funny and sad moments very quickly. This helped show how much she could change her mood. Her ability to play these complex parts made her a legend in the arts.
