Andrea Palladio was a famous Italian architect. He lived a long time ago. He was born in 1508. As a young boy, he learned to cut stone. This job was hard work. Later, he became an architect. He loved the style of ancient Greece and Rome. He traveled to Rome to see old buildings. These trips gave him many new ideas.

Palladio is best known for his villas. A villa is a large country house. He made many beautiful ones. One famous house is Villa Capra, also called "La Rotonda." It is perfectly even on all sides. It has a round center with a dome. This house inspired many buildings in England and the United States.

He also built large city buildings. One is the Basilica Palladiana. He added rows of arches and columns to an old building. He wrote books to teach his way of building. These books were shared all over Europe. His work changed how people build for a very long time. Many of his buildings are now protected by UNESCO. This means they are very special to the whole world.
