People share these ideas through books, talks, or even drawings. It is a way to learn how to make better spaces for everyone.

Long ago, a Roman writer named Vitruvius wrote a famous book. He said every building needs three things. It must be strong. It must be useful. It must also be beautiful.

Architects in the Renaissance period used his ideas to turn building into a science.

In ancient India, people used texts called Vastu Shastra. These books taught them how to design with nature. They used shapes and patterns to plan buildings. They also looked at how to arrange space.

Later, ideas changed how cities looked. Camillo Sitte wrote about how buildings work together in a town. He said the space between buildings is very important. In the 1900s, Louis Sullivan said that the shape of a building should follow its use. This is a famous idea called "form follows function."
