Styles show us how people live. They can show a time or a place. For example, the Renaissance style began in Italy. It spread to all of Europe over 200 years. Each country added its own special touch. Styles can also travel through colonialism. Spanish priests brought a unique style to California. They built Spanish missions there in the late 1700s.

Styles often change as we find new tools. New materials like metal and concrete change how we build. Sometimes, people bring back an old style. This is called a revival. For instance, people revived the classic style. They called this new version neoclassicism. This gives old ideas a fresh start. Even if we forget who built a house, the style remains. It is a tool to help us learn about history.
