It lived in China about 160 million years ago. Scientists found hundreds of its fossils there. These fossils are very special. They show us what the animal looked like in real life.

Anchiornis was about the size of a crow. It had long arms and long legs. It was covered in feathers. Some parts of its body also had scales. It had long feathers on its head and neck. These might have made a crest on its head.

This dinosaur had wings on its arms. It also had long feathers on its legs. This made it look like it had four wings.

Its wing feathers were shaped in a unique way. The longest feathers were near the wrist. This made the wings look very round. The feathers on its legs might have been for show. They may not have helped it fly. The feathers also looked a bit shaggy. This may have helped keep the animal warm.
