They usually have between 24 and 64 pages. Some fans call them "floppy" comics. Many people collect them. Some rare books sell for over 1 million dollars! Fans use plastic sleeves and cardboard boards to keep them safe.

Making a comic book takes a whole team.

A writer plans the story and the words. A penciller draws the art with pencils. An inker goes over the art with ink. A colorist adds the bright colors. Finally, a letterer adds the speech balloons so you can read the dialogue.

Comic books have a long history. In 1933, a book called Famous Funnies came out. Many call it the first true American comic book. Later, in 1938, a hero named Superman appeared in Action Comics. He wore a cape and bright tights. He became the model for many other superheroes. Since then, many types of stories have become popular. These include horror, science fiction, and romance. Today, comic books are a major part of art around the world.
