You can walk across the sandbar on your own two feet. Other people choose to look at it from the mountains. The mountains sit on either side of the bay. This gives you a great view of the trees and water.

Many people have visited this place for a very long time. The Isoshimizu fresh water well is a famous part of the area. People have cherished this well since the Heian period. In 1985, the Environmental Agency looked at many water sources. They chose this well as one of the 100 best springs and rivers in Japan. It is a very special source of fresh water.

These places make the sandbar feel very important. You can see how history and nature live together here. The shrines and temples sit right at the edges of the land.

Getting to Amanohashidate is quite easy for travelers. You can take the Miyazu Line railway to the Amanohashidate Station. This station is near the southern end of the sandbar. It is about a two-hour trip from Kyoto Station or Osaka Station. Once you arrive, you can walk to many of the sights. This makes it a great place to explore. You can see the bay, the trees, and the temples all in one trip.
