Amado Carrillo Fuentes was a powerful drug leader in Mexico. He was born in 1954 in Guamuchilito, Sinaloa. His parents were Walter Vicente Carrillo Vega and Aurora Fuentes. He grew up with eleven siblings in his family. His uncle, Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, was a leader of the Guadalajara Cartel. Amado learned about the drug business from his uncle. He also worked with leaders like Pablo Escobar and the Cali Cartel.

Amado eventually took control of the Juárez Cartel. He became famous for how he moved goods. He used a large fleet of jets to fly drugs. Because of this, people called him "El Señor de Los Cielos." This name means "The Lord of the Skies." He also moved money through Colombia to pay for his planes. It is estimated he made over $25 billion during his career.

As time went on, the work of the police grew harder. Authorities in the U.S. and Mexico worked to find him. In Morelos, people held silent marches to protest drug violence. This pressure made Amado want to change his appearance. He decided to have plastic surgery to hide his face. He went to Santa Mónica Hospital in Mexico City for the operation.

Amado died during his surgery on July 4, 1997. There were complications during the medical procedure. Some reports say a machine failed or a medicine caused a problem. His family said he had a heart attack while under anesthesia. After he died, his son, Vicente Carrillo Leyva, was later arrested in 2009. The government also took over many of his buildings and bank accounts.

Today, many people know about Amado through stories on TV. He has been a character in many shows. For example, the series "Narcos" shows him played by José María Yazpik. The show "El Chapo" also features him. Some shows tell stories that are not exactly true. They might suggest he faked his death to stay safe. These shows help people remember his impact on history.
