Most cans are made of two parts. Workers start with a flat plate of metal. They press the metal into a shape. This part is called the body. Then, they seal an end onto the top. They use a sealing compound to keep air out. This keeps the food fresh.

Inside the can, there is a thin coating. This is an epoxy resin. It protects the metal from acidic drinks. It also stops the drink from tasting like metal. Aluminum is great because it is light and does not rust. Many cans have an easy-open end. This was made in 1962. You do not need a tool to open it. People also collect cans as a hobby. Some people collect soda cans. Others collect beer or oil cans. One man has over 20,000 soda cans! Cans are also easy to recycle. They are the most recycled beverage container in the world.
