Alexey Pajitnov is a man who loves puzzles. He was born in Russia in 1955. His parents were both writers. His father studied art. His mother was a journalist. Because of them, Alexey grew up loving films. He also loved math and solving problems.

In 1979, Alexey got a job at a science center. He worked on computers. He used the machines to test new ideas. He also used them to make games. He remembered playing a game called pentominoes as a child. That game used shapes to make pictures. Alexey wanted to make a game like that.

He used a computer called an Electronika 60. He finished the first version of Tetris in 1985. The game was so much fun that he could not stop playing it. Later, a young intern helped make a color version for the PC. This new version added sound and scores.

Alexey moved to the United States in 1991. He later started The Tetris Company. This helped him earn money from his famous game. He has made many other puzzle games, too. He even worked for Microsoft for many years.
