Alexei Abrikosov was a famous physicist. He was born in Moscow in 1928. His parents were both doctors. Alexei loved to study how matter acts. Matter is the stuff that makes up everything. He studied things at very low temperatures. This means things that are very cold.

In 1952 and 1957, he made big discoveries. He studied a group of superconductors. These are materials that let electricity flow easily. He found how magnetic flux can enter them. Magnetic flux is a way to measure magnetic fields. He found that these lines form a pattern. This pattern is called an Abrikosov vortex lattice.

His work helped us understand how magnets and electricity work together. In 2003, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics. He shared this prize with two other scientists. He worked in Russia and the United States. He lived in California until he died in 2017. He was 88 years old. He also wrote a famous book. Many scientists still use his book to learn today.
