He was born on 17 January 1937. He studied at the Lycée Louis-Le-Grand and the École Normale Supérieure. Badiou is known for using math to study big ideas. He uses parts of math like set theory and category theory. These math tools help him think about how the world works. His ideas are very important in modern French thought. He even helped start a new university in Paris in 1969.

Badiou has a special way of looking at truth. He thinks truth is something that stays the same everywhere. This is called being invariant. He also believes truths are built through certain ways of thinking. These two ideas might seem strange together. But he says a truth stays hidden most of the time. It only becomes visible during a sudden, big moment. He calls this special moment an event.

An event is a rupture that changes how we see things.

When someone sees an event, they must decide what to do. If they stay faithful to that new truth, they become a subject. For Badiou, being a subject is not something we are born with. It is something we become through our actions. This process creates new knowledge for the world. He wrote a very famous book called Being and Event in 1988. This book is his most important work. It explains his ideas about being, truth, and events in great detail.

Badiou says there are four areas where truth can happen. He calls these truth procedures. These four areas are art, love, politics, and science. He uses special names for them when he studies them as a philosopher. He calls art "inaesthetics" and politics "metapolitics." He also uses "ontology" for science. He warns that philosophy should not get too stuck in just one area. Instead, it should look at how these different areas connect to each other.

Throughout his life, Badiou has been very active in the world. He was a member of the Unified Socialist Party. He also helped start a group called the UCFml in 1969. He has written many books, plays, and even novels. Some of his books, like Ethics, are now read in English. His ideas are even studied by people in India and South Africa. Even today, he continues to share his thoughts on politics and life. He remains a very influential thinker in many different countries.
